June’s Column

In June’s column I write about this 1914 Parker company Carousel that was in Hutchinson recently. The history of that – it will be 100 years old next year – reminded me of how we have so many ties with the past when it comes to food.

I started thinking about how a taste or smell can take us back to a kitchen of our childhoods very quickly. In the spirit of that, I decided to share the recipe I learned to cook with – my mom’s coconut pie.

Over the years, people have told me it’s the best coconut pie they’ve ever had, but I honestly can’t say that. I haven’t had a lot of coconut pie, other than Mama’s recipe. Look for it in the upcoming June issue.
